Bike types

It can be tough to find the perfect bike.  So we've put together a summary of the main types of bike available.  If you're not sure what size of bike or helmet you need then check out our size guide or give us a call.

Mountain Bikes
These are the Bear Grylls of bicycles, happiest when they’re out in the wild. Take one out of the city on an all-terrain adventure where it can get dirty grappling with roots, sand and mud. Thick tyres, deep treads, a lower gear range and built-in suspension provide the extra traction and stability needed for off-road encounters. Give a mountain bike a home today… just don’t leave it locked up too long!

Road Bikes
Fancy the Tour de France, or even just touring France? Either way, the road bike is the swift, lean, ultra-efficient machine you need for racing, touring, or cycling long distances. Road bikes are designed with efficiency and reliability in mind to get you gliding effortlessly along those smooth surfaces. With dropped handles, super-light frames made from aluminium or carbon fibre, and skinny tyres, you can maximise energy transfer and pick up some serious speed.

Hybrid Bikes
Are you’re thinking to yourself “I want it all!”? Then you’re in the right place. Yes, a hybrid is the bicycle that Queen wants to ride. Thanks to the combination of elements from mountain and road bikes, the hybrid has the ability to negotiate a wide range of conditions, making it hugely popular with all kinds of cyclists. Its sloping frame absorbs impact from lumps, bumps and potholes, protecting your joints, back and shoulders.

Kid’s Bikes
Give a child a bicycle and you open up their eyes, their world, and their horizons – with the added benefit of tiring them out before bed. They’ll learn a skill they’ll use for life, gain greater independence and a sense of achievement, and have so much fun they won’t even realise they’re exercising. It just might be one of the best investments you ever make.  Use our size guide to work out what bike will suit your child best.

Vintage Bikes
A vintage bike is a little like George Clooney: as they get older, they get easier to fall for. Others may disapprove of the age gap, but rest assured , the bike project will make sure your new-to-you vintage model is in a thoroughly modern condition. Vintage bikes are sturdy, dependable, and high quality – it really is true that they don’t make ‘em like they used to! The upright design encourages good posture, so you can ride as elegantly as Audrey Hepburn on a Roman holiday, even if you suffer from back problems. Most models have a low crossbar and a basket, so you can hop on and run errands at the drop of a hat.
